I know this means the speaker has a smaller tweeter inside of the woofer, but does that also mean they are automatically setup to work with a crossover? In other words do the tweeters wire up separately?

Reason I ask is that I just pulled some dead speakers off a boat equipped with crossovers so I'd like to get a speaker that will work with these crossovers, meaning it needs distinct hookups for the tweeter and woofer. I am however at a loss whether or not when a speaker says "2-way" it means that they will hook up to a crossover.

These are the ones we want to install: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

usually the "crossover" or resistor is integral to the speaker itself. I have seen them with separate hookups a few times in the past

Usually a two-way, or coaxial, speaker only has one speaker wire hookup. You could hook it to a crossover and it would only produce the frequencies sent to it.

Hmm, the speakers in this boat were fairly old, they are very nice, but they no longer work.

So you are thinking with a more modern speaker we'll likely end up eliminating the crossover?

Hmm, ok. Maybe the speakers I pulled out being older is why it had two distinct hookups because external crossovers were more common back then?

That could be, or they were specifically built that way to produce stereo from a single speaker. I have such a speaker in the one and only front speaker mount in the dash of a Camaro.

Talked to an audio guy, turns out what we need is a speaker that looks like a 2-way speaker, but it actually a component speaker. Thankfully this guy found some for us. It'll hookup to the crossover and produce better sound than a 2-way would.
